The Life and Times of Donald P. Golden, Jr.

The Boy From Kountze

My dad’s teenage years were in Kountze, Texas, about 25 miles north of Beaumont.

He was a boy scout and he played on a seven man football team for the Kountze Lions.

Dad is kneeling in the middle,

I think he was a wild child. No specific data, just impressions from hearing stuff when I was a kid

Dad loved Kountze. We visited my grandparents until my grandmother died. In my adolescent years dad would take us to Kountze to ‘enjoy’ parades celebrating the town’s existence.

After finishing high school in May 1941 he got a job at the shipyard in Beaumont. At this point the shipyard was in high gear to support the war effort and I believe dad had a deferment that kept him out of the draft.

Handsome dude. Dad always liked to look good when he dressed up.
