The day I graduated from Rice with both my Bachelors and Masters in Electrical Engineering, I went home after the ceremony to find in my mail box two letters from the Beaumont Draft Board. One contained a letter with a new draft card reclassifying me from II-S (Student) to I-A (Draftable). The other one contained a Notice to Report for a Physical.
Yaaarrrggggh.
This was in May of 1969 at the height of the Viet Nam war and cannon fodder was required to keep the war machine running. The Beaumont Draft Board seemed to have a bias against those who chose to pursue their education away from Beaumont, but it was with an efficiency uncharacteristic of a government agency that they reclassified me as I-A and started the draft process by ordering me to report for the pre draft physical exam.
Spoiler alert: I did not get drafted, but that is another story.
