Move to Webster

With my impending  graduation from Rice in May 1969 it was a high priority to shorten my commute.  We found a new, more expensive (but now we had the big bucks) apartment in Clear Lake on El Dorado.  It was a nice two bedroom apartment with a micro kitchen that sported nearly zero counter space.  I think we used my draft notice  a couple of months to break the lease and move to the NASA Colonnades on NASA Rd 1 just east of the Gulf Freeway.

Check out the BBQ rig on the balcony. Fully Suburbanized.

Our two bedroom apartment was upstairs over Tony and Ginger Avvenire who had a daughter Britany’s age.  Another couple in this apartment was Dian and Gene Sumrall who also had a little girl in the Britany age range.

This is Adrienne and Britany probably in the Fall of 69.

We played bridge with Tony and Ginger.  It was difficult to play past the girls’ bedtimes.  To remedy the problem I designed and built a ‘baby monitor’ that we could put in either Britany’s or Adrienne’s bedroom and play through the stereo in the other apartment.  It worked great.  If only I had had the global view and cash to patent and develop it.  How many new kids come WITHOUT a baby monitor these days.
