Driver's License

At this time, in Texas, a 14 year old who had passed Driver Education could get an unrestricted driver license. I took Driver Education at Beaumont High School and did the driving in a Ford with dual controls. Standard shift, clutch and ‘three on the tree’ was a complication that I mastered.

I got my license in the summer of my 14th year, 1960. One privilege was top take the family car to my job at Tyrrell Public Library.
