Big Thicket Light - Ghost Light of Saratoga

Google it.

My high school years clearly predated Google - dang, they predated lots of stuff.

Anyhow we heard the rumors of the Big Thicket Light so 4 or 5 of us loaded up into one of our family cars to go check it our one night. I think we were in Guy Youngblood’s family’s station wagon and I am pretty sure Mike Brown, James Cole and Brad Norton were the other miscreants in the expedition.

Our best intelligence told us that on some back roads in the Big Thicket between Honey Island and Saratoga this light would appear and follow cars. This area is north west of Beaumont and just about due west of Kountze.

Anyhow we started driving various backroads and dirt roads, checking out pipelines and logging roads in the target area. We had been doing this for an hour or so with no success. All we saw was lots of tall pine trees, bar ditches and no Ghost Light.

Our discussions during this trek centered on what the light could be and we were pretty sure it was a UFO. We wanted to be the ones to tell the aliens that they were safe and that we wanted peace in the universe.

We made a turn onto another nondescript back road and suddenly we were lit from behind by a light so bright that it illuminated the trees and ditches so well that Guy could have extinguished the headlights without risk.

It was bright enough to read by.

Guy slammed on the brakes and we screeched to a stop. We piled out to be treated to a rising full moon that was absolutely gorgeous. LOL!
