Wedding

We were married in the Rice Chapel on campus by the university chaplain, Kenneth Vaux. Thanksgiving fell on our wedding day that year.

Wedding

To my right is Carolyn Klumb, Kathy’s maid of honor. She was Kathy’s roommate who more than a year earlier had prompted the trip to Houston where I met Kathy for the first time and got the ball rolling.

Tim Lucas, Kathy’s brother and my best man is to Kathy’s left. Rev Kenneth Vaux is on the far right. He actually attempted a little pre-marital counseling which we were way too smart to accept. If only we’d had the same level of counseling that we later provided to Mercy Ships couples…

Dan Crane, Tim’s roommate, used my Mamiya Sekor 500 DTL single lens reflex camera and served as wedding photographer.

The wedding reception was held in the Warwick Hotel. The Warwick is on South Main adjacent to Mecom Fountain. It is now the Hotel ZaZa - very classy in an offbeat way. We stayed there one night in 2021 when we had to vacate the house due to a water leak that ruined the wood floors.

Thank God for our awesome parents - what a debt of gratitude we owe them. After the reception we had dinner with our parents and some friends at a very classy restaurant before Tim took us to Hobby airport for our flight to New Orleans. We honeymooned in New Orleans. We stayed in a hotel just off Bourbon Street. We did touristy stuff and began the amazing adventure of married life.
