892 0403 - the Golden residence phone number. It was officially TWinbrook 2-0403.

When we first moved into the Idylwood house we had a party line. This was like extensions in a house in the 80’s except that the extensions were in different houses. There were different ring patterns for each party line customer. We upgraded to a private line pretty quickly.

We had a single rotary phone in the corner of the living room. It was wired to the wall. Eventually we upgraded to a longer cord so that we could move the phone into either the living room, kitchen or breezway.

How this whole technology has changed!

We all raced to answer it when it rang.
