The phone was rotary technology, not pushbutton

The phone was rotary technology, not pushbutton. The dial sent a series of pulses (1 push for 1, 2 for 2 and so on) to the central office where massive banks of rotary switches made the connection to the dialed party.

We did not have a separate extension until we were in the Horn street house and mom got a pink ‘princess’ phone in their bedroom.

This is a rotary process phone. About the time the princess phone was introduced, Bell introduced push button dialing. Each button sent a comvination of tones to the central office. At that time Southwestern Bell owned the phone system franchise and actually owned the phones. The customer leased phones and paid exorbitant long distance fees. Uncle Gordon worked for Southwestern Bell, the phone company. Their number was 895 6789.
