More on Elementary School Years

My last three years in Elementary school I was in Cub Scouts. Mom and several other moms cooperated to be the den mother of the month.

My fifth grade teacher, Mrs. Young, convinced me that math was fun and really changed my appreciation for math. I owe her a debt of gratitude for math skills that have served me well for years.

My sixth grade home room teacher, Mrs. Jordan, was also the music teacher. She got a record player and introduced us to finer music. One album I remember was a recording of Tchaikovsky’s Overture 1812 - wow, I still appreciate it.

I also got a record player about this time and had a bunch of 45’s and 33 1/3’s.

In the sixth grade about 30 of us, boys and girls, were signed up for ballroom dancing class. We learned the foxtrot, waltz, jitterbug, rhumba and samba. I liked it because girls were becoming more desirable, especially to hold while dancing.

I think Terry went to Edwards for his first three years and then he finished elementary school at Eugene Field Elementary across the road from French High School.

This is Terry in 1958. He and I shared a bedroom in both the Idylwood house and the Horn. Street house. I guess that makes him my first real roommate.
