Luther and Nora: Snuff and False Teeth

Both Luther and Nora dipped snuff!!! Yaaarrrggghhhh! Put me off snuff forever. They put a pinch of snuff between gums and lips and produced a gagging brown liquid that they spit into glass jars. There was always a glass jar with the brown stuff nearby and there were trickles of brown in the wrinkles around their mouths. It was truly disgusting. Linda Thomas and I still laugh about how we reacted to this filthy habit.

They also both had false teeth. I have no idea how that came about other than horrible dental care during their younger days. Their teeth were kept in small glass jars with clear liquid and Linda and I, again, were a little grossed out and a little fascinated by the teeth.

This photo is from the early 60s after Luther stopped driving. They moved to a retirement apartment on Lucas near the railroad tracks. This was only about three blocks from our Horns Street house - as the crow flies. They were here doing my high school years.

Their health degraded and their ability to care for themselves became questionable. and early in the 60’s they moved to a nursing home.
