1948 Plymouth
The first family car I remember was a black ‘48 Plymouth.
I do not have any photos of our actual. I do recall the eyebrow shades. The car had an inline six cylinder engine and a ‘three on the tree’ manual transmission. We kept this car for a while after we bought the ‘56 Dodge Texan. Cars in the early 50’s were generally – six cylinder, flat head V8 or more rarely overhead valve V8 – Three speed manual transmission with the shifter on the right side of the steering column. – No air conditioning – Vacuum tube radio (30 seconds to come on) if there was a radio – lousy heater – no defroster – no turn signals – no seat belts
