Redneck Swimming Pools

One side effect of my mom’s getting a fully automatic washing machine to replace the ringer washer was that three washtubs became surplus.

This photo doesn’t show the scale, but I estimate that the opening was about three feet at the top.

Linda and I would fill two of these with the garden hose and allow the sun to warm the water a bit. Then we would don our swimsuits and ‘go swimming’ in the tubs. This fit with the family budget.

We had to be sure to empty them when we were finished lest they make rings of dead grass.
